Mr. John Douglas Looney, age 82, of Rochester, N.Y., passed away March 24, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Looney was born on March 31, 1942, in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was a hard worker who was very successful and achieved all the goals he set for himself, graduating from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Chemical Engineering and working for the same company for 35 years. He was a provider who believed in taking care of his family, and he truly lived up to the “Most Likely to Succeed” title he was given as a senior in high school.
In his spare time after retirement, Mr. Looney enjoyed reading, watching movies, tinkering with computers and software, and working outside in his yard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Rose Looney; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Glenn Hammond.
His family includes his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Sarah Rowland Looney of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter, Jennifer Shannon of Alexandria, VA; granddaughter, Katie Snook (Jordan) of Miamisburg, OH; great-grandchildren, Melody Snook and Maxwell Snook of Miamisburg, OH; brother-in-law, Luther Rowland, Jr. (Nancy) of Midway; sister-in-law, Christine Anderson of Hazlehurst; and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held Tuesday evening, April 01, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 02, 2025, at 11:00am in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Minister Bobby Lairsey officiating.
Interment will follow in the Liberty Community Church.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home and the Looney Family are in charge of arrangements.
