Mr. Johnny Lee Burkett, age 71, of Lumber City, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Burkett was born on July 09, 1953, to the late Arthur Lee Burkett and Lois Mims Burkett. He was a graduate of the Ocmulgee Academy in Lumber City. He was the mayor of Lumber City as well as the owner/operator of Burkett Tire for 53 years. He attended Southside Church of God of Alma and was a member of Lumber City Baptist Church. Johnny loved cruises, and his family said his second home was across the water on a cruise ship. He was also an excellent grill-master. He was a hard worker with a generous heart and loved his wife and all his family unconditionally.
He will surely be missed.
Johnny’s family includes his wife, Janet Smith Burkett of Lumber City; sons and daughter-in-law, Brent Lee Burkett of Lumber City, Authur Brad Burkett (Samatha) of Hazlehurst, and Jermey Smith of Savannah; five grandchildren, Bryce Lee Burkett (Elizabeth), Baley Burkett, Nathan Lee Spivey, Shelby Marie Burkett and Taylor Arthur Burkett, God-son, Samm Carter of Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Burkett, Jackson Burkett and Kinsley Burkett, and a special friend Mr. Rabun Beasley.
A visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5:00-9:00p.m. in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 2:00P.M. at Lumber City Baptist Church with minister Stacey Stone and Reverend David Deen officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City.
Sheriff Preston Bohannon, John Lawrence, Lumber City Council members, Rabun Beasley, Sim Davison and the Telfair County Masonic Lodge will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Darrell Beasley, John Stinson, Mark Joiner, Corey Griffin, Rusty Moses and Daniel Ivey
will serve as active pallbearers.
