John Lance (Johnny) Kight, 75, passed away on January 17th at Jeff Davis Hospital after an extended illness.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, William Osborn and Elizabeth Emogene Walkup Kight, and 2 brothers, Don William and James (Jimmy) Kight.
He is survived by a special partner and in his words, his “everything”, Sheila Mims. He is also survived by daughters, Tammy Kight, Tracey (Randall) Vickery, Ashley (Eric) McEachin, Mariah Adams and Brittany (Brandon) Wood along with his grandchildren, Kade Mills, Lance (Leigha) Vickery, Korin McEachin, Presley Harris, Braxton Adams, Kyla McEachin, Maeley Wood, Maddix Adams and Maxley Wood. Sisters, Arlene Baucom and Wanda Hurley, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive.
Johnny was a born farmer, having farmed tobacco in his younger years and a little of it all throughout his life. Along with farming, he also purchased Hall Oil Company in 1999. Johnny grew this business into a huge success before retiring in 2021.
His farm, known as Lance Farms, has produced many crops, horses, cows and chickens. Known as an avid horseman and cowboy, Johnny’s beloved horse, HM Cornerstone, won him the 2011 NBHA World Finals Championship, BFA World Championship and Diamonds & Dirt Futurity Championship.
Johnny loved to fish and loved his family. He will always be remembered for the wonderful cook he was and for his love of hosting for his family and friends. Anyone that knew him knew he believed in having fun and living life to the fullest, and he did just that.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 20, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Watkins officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Snipesville.
Randall Vickery, Eric McEachin, Brandon Wood, Kade Mills, Lance Vickery and Braxton Adams will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Jackie Overstreet, Brad Crews, Chip Bowen, Greg Kight, Danielle Partin O’Connor and his beloved ranch hands, Johnny Joe and Cruz.
