Joy Keller Peebles

Mrs. Joy Keller Peebles, age 91, of Alpharetta, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center.

She was born June 11, 1933 in Abbeville, Alabama to the late Charles Spurgeon and Eunice Byrd Oldacre Keller. She grew up in Abbeville and later attended college at Auburn University. She married Grover Peebles, Jr. in 1951 and they lived in Birmingham for 25 years before moving to Hazlehurst in 1981. After her husband passed, Joy continued building a life for herself in Hazlehurst until 2018 when she moved to Alpharetta to be closer to her family. Joy was a devoted Christian and an active member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst where she served as a longtime Sunday School teacher. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Grover Cleveland Peebles, Jr.; her brothers, Spurgeon Keller, Jesse Albert Keller, and Thomas Jasper Keller; and her sister, Nan Keller Rainer.

Her family includes three sons, Cleve Peebles (Rilla) of Johns Creek, Charles Peebles (Heather) of Folkston, and Clay Peebles (Ashley) of Social Circle; eight grandchildren, Katie Peebles Lee, Kristie Peebles, Karie Peebles Austin, Jessica Peebles Mandrell, Wesley Peebles, Alex Peebles, Jordi Bohannon, and Chase Bohannon; four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Brad Waters officiating.
