Martha Sue Hughes

Ms. Martha Sue Hughes, age 70, of Hazlehurst passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at Jeff Davis County Hospital.

Ms. Hughes was born on February 19, 1954 in Baxley, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Mabel Griffin; sister, Linda Faye Mathews; and brothers, Linton Griffin, Glen Griffin, Larry Griffin, Tommy Griffin and Melvin Griffin.

Martha enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching western movies, and cooking for her family. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was a dedicated employee at Alco Controls for thirty years. She enjoyed her job and made many friends during her years there.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Hutchinson (Mike Sr) and Christy Thrift(Trent)of Hazlehurst; son, James “Buddy” Hughes(Angel) of Hazlehurst; brothers, Ray Griffin (Peggy), Dennis Griffin (Patsy), both of Worth County; sister, Rebecca Eunice; grandchildren, Michael Hutchinson Jr.(Mia), Tyler Hutchinson(Jania), Ryan Hutchinson(Alicea), Sabrina Turner, Gabriel Thrift, Zoey Thrift, Lily Thrift, Wyat Thrift; great grandchildren, Peyton Hutchinson, Mikah Hutchinson, Hailey Turner, Sarah Turner and Mason Turner.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024 in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Rev. Glen Stinson and Rev. Jinker Horton officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Lance Griffin, Larry Griffin, Melvin Griffin Jr., David Young, Keith Griffin, and Greg Eunice. Honorary Pallbearers are former co-workers at Alco Controls of Hazlehurst.

Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
