Mary Gibbs Obituary

Ms. Mary Ann Gibbs, age 83, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, November 04, 2022, at Lumber City Nursing Home.

 

Ms. Gibbs was born on February 27, 1939, in  Jeff Davis County.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Merritt and Mary Smith, her husband Hal Gibbs, sister, Margaret Dennis, brothers, Roger Merritt and Eugene Merritt.

Ms. Gibbs was a retired bank teller for about forty-five years with Altamaha Bank and a member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother, as well as a great cook. She enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers, and especially loved her magnolias. Mary also enjoyed occasional trips to the mountains.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa G. and Ray Yawn of Hazlehurst; brother and sister-in-law James Grady and Sandra Merritt of Jacksonville, FL, and Russell Merritt of Douglas; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Roger Creamer of Uvalda; grandchildren, Holly Y. Chaney (Tyler) of Hazlehurst and Josh R. Yawn of Uvalda; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Chaney and Alec Chaney.

 

Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home.

 

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 06, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Eureka Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Creamer officiating.

Interment will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Altamaha Bank and Trust.

 

Musical selections will be rendered by Rev. Jeffery Spell and Mr. Hal Cox.

 

The Gibbs Family and Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home respectfully ask all in attendance to continue to follow social distancing guidelines set by our local health district and the CDC.

Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
