Mary Walls Obituary

Mrs. Mary Thompson Walls, age 74, of Denton, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.

Born on December 23, 1950, in Alma, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Junior Thompson and Grace Chesteen Thompson. Mary was raised in Alma and later made her home in Denton after marrying the love of her life. For 27 years, Mary served as a special education paraprofessional with the Jeff Davis County School System, where she was known for her compassion, patience, and commitment to her students. She was Christian by faith, and outside of work, she enjoyed reading, fishing, gardening, and tending to her flowers.

Above all, Mary was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family fiercely and found her greatest joy in spending time with them. She will be remembered for her strong, determined spirit, and her unwavering love.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, David Allen Walls; her sons, Jerry Daniel Harrell and Chris Walls; her brother, Buddy Thompson; her sisters, Linda Thompson, Barbara Thompson, Sara Thompson, Judy Butler, and Betty Fielding; her grandson, Christopher David Manning; her great-grandson, Casey Manning; and her mother-in-law, Allene Atkinson.

Mary’s family includes her sons, Cecil Walls (Cherissa) of Denton, and Levi Walls of Hazlehurst; her daughters, Mary Sue Harrell of Denton, Rebecca Jane Arias (Jose) of Mississippi, and Amy Melinda Morgan (Shannon) of Lyons; her brother, Booge Thompson of Alma; her sister, Carolyn Smith (Andy) of Baxley; her sister-in-law, Mary Powell (David) of Denton; her grandchildren, Jennifer Poore (Benji), Ryan Carver (Kelsie), Carla Hodge, Brandon Manning (Gwen), Alexis Manning, Ethan Manning, Katie Wilkerson, and Tate; her great-grandchildren, Winry Clark, Bodi Poore, Emersyn Manning, Addisyn Manning, Liliana Hodge, and Emma Carver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Merritt officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until just prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Denton Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Manning, Alexis Manning, Ethan Manning, Jennifer Poore, Ryan Carver, and Carla Hodge.
