Modrey Yawn Obituary

Mrs. Modrey Yawn, age 98, of Hazlehurst, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Hazlehurst Court Care and Rehab under the care of Coastal Hospice of Hazlehurst.

Born on March 23, 1927, in Jeff Davis County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hall and Irene McEachin Hall. A 1947 graduate of Jeff Davis High School, Mrs. Yawn also attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro before returning home to Jeff Davis County, where she was a lifelong resident and a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church.

Mrs. Yawn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed. As the eldest child, she learned the value of hard work early on, a quality that only deepened as she raised five children following the untimely passing of her first husband, Fred Reynolds.

She worked for several years at To-Mi-Co Egg Company and later retired from Hazlehurst Manufacturing, where she served for many years as a shipping clerk. Even in retirement, she remained active, cooking for her family, chatting with friends on the phone, and taking great satisfaction in ironing clothes. She loved sweet tea and was always ready to offer a glass to anyone who stopped by. Of all her roles in life, her favorite was being “Granny,” and she never missed a chance to love on or spoil her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Reynolds; her husband, Ernest Yawn; sons, Michael Reynolds and Larry Reynolds; stepsons, Milton Reynolds and Howard Reynolds; siblings, Donald (Lunette) Hall and Donnie Lee Farmer; and her grandson, Brian Reynolds.

Survivors include her children: Jimmy (Debra) Reynolds, Wanda (Jerry) Rowland, and Stanley (Ann) Reynolds, all of Hazlehurst and LaWahna Reynolds of Lake Sinclair, Ga; grandchildren: Shawn (Deborah) Rowland, Shannon (Chris) Corbitt, Kylie (Jamie) Smith, Derek (Leslie) Reynolds, Jedidiah Reynolds, Jared Reynolds, Derek (Joni) Smith, and Lyndsey (Jason) Carter; 14 great-grandchildren; and one niece, Joyce Eason.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Wallace Barber will officiate. Interment will follow at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Corbitt, Derek Reynolds, Jamie Smith, Jared Reynolds, Jarrett Smith, Jedidiah Reynolds, Miles Rowland, and Shawn Rowland. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Coastal Hospice and Hazlehurst Court Care.

The family may be contacted at the home of Jerry and Wanda Rowland, 312 Bill Quarterman Road, Hazlehurst. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church ministry of your choice.
