Mrs. Patricia “Patsy” Carter Rowell, age 84, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at her home.
She was born on December 7, 1940, in Baxley, to the late Doris Carter and Dorothy Yawn Carter. Mrs. Rowell was Baptist by faith and lived a life centered on caring for others. Whether it was her own children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or even the baby calves at the dairy where she worked for 20 years, Patsy devoted herself to nurturing and looking after those around her.
She found joy in her kitchen, where she loved to cook and make sure no one ever left her home hungry. She was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren, cheering them on at countless baseball and softball games, and she also enjoyed the simple satisfaction of mowing her yard. Known for her toughness and strong will, she lived by the motto, “her way or the highway,” yet always with a heart full of love for her family. She will be remembered for her strength, her care for others, and the many meals and memories she shared with those she loved.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Grady Rowell, Sr.; and her siblings, Bronnie Carter, Ronnie Carter, Johnnie Carter, Patrick Carter, Bobbie Jean Mitcham, Janice Moore, and Lynell Taylor.
Mrs. Rowell’s family includes her children, Janet Elisa Sexton (Billy), William Grady Rowell, Jr. (Leisa), Alicea Hutchinson (Ryan), Carolyn Rowell (Colby Miller), and Alex Rowell (Harley Daniels); her brother, Greg Carter (Lori); her sister, Toni Edge; her grandchildren, Christie Haynes, Heidi Freitag (Eric), William Sexton (Drana), Pamela Douglas (Justin Wright), Tiffany Zimmerman (Jason), Corey Hobbs (Kayla), Nikki Sexton (Kevin Speck), Mason Hobbs, Carson Miller, Drake Thornton, Peyton Hutchinson, and Harper Miller; 24 great-grandchildren, Kylee Branum, Kaiden Wright, Paisley Wright, Sierra Zimmerman, Sawyer Zimmerman, Saylor Zimmerman, Nariah Whitehurst, Raelyn Speck, Kayden Speck, Karter Speck, Michael Sexton, Jensen Sexton, Caysin Sexton, Destiny Chambers, Sadie Hobbs, Baylee Hobbs, Colbie Hobbs, Summer Freitag, Saige Hovland, Savannah Freitag, Scotland Freitag, Brett Munger, Kendyll Munger, and Cory Munger; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
