Pauline Smith Yawn, age 90, of Hazlehurst, Georgia. She went to her heavenly home Wednesday, October 05, 2022, at Jeff Davis Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Yawn was born October 22, 1931, in Wheeler County.
She was preceded in death by her parents R.J. and Lessie Smith, her husband Bobby R. Yawn, Brothers: Reverend Jimmy R. Smith, Joe G. Smith, David L. Smith, and Benny J. Smith.
Mrs. Yawn was valedictorian of her High School graduating class. She attended Brewton Parker College and Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Lyons, Georgia then met and married her husband. She started teaching in Jeff Davis County after their marriage. She had her daughter and son while continuing her education. She was awarded “Teacher of the Year” twice while teaching in Jeff Davis County.
Mrs. Yawn was a former member and past president of Jeff Davis County Retired Teachers’ Association, former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honors Society. She loved music, especially piano and violin. She taught piano lessons through out her career and into retirement. She loved her students and called them her “little angels”. She was also a “farmers wife” and all that entailed. She attended and was a longtime member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church where she served as the pianist for many years. She was a humble, quiet soul who served her community well. She loved her family dearly. Survivors include Her daughter: Leisa Yawn Brewer, Son; Ret. MSGT. Gregory B, Yawn (Lynne). Grandson; Jonathan G, Yawn (Amber), Great Granddaughters; Alyssa Krislyn Yawn and Sydney Michelle Yawn. One sister; Pearl S, Cook, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Arthur Yawn, Eddie Clements, Chris Davenport, Todd Brewer, Richie Smith, and Rodney Smith.
Honorary Pallbearers: G.C. Herrington Jr, Eric Carelock, Steve Connell, Joe Allen Yawn, Doug Carter, Dr. Jason Laney, Ken Smith, Tammy Metts, and Kristy Tanner, Mr. & Mrs. Junior Sharpe, Mr. & Mrs. Gene Moeykens, Sheriff Preston Bohannon.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, October 09, 2022, at Wainright- Parlor Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at 2:00 PM with Funeral Service at 3:00 PM. Committal graveside services will follow in the Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
