Mr. Raymond Joseph Daugherty, age 92, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Grace Living Personal Care Home in Woodstock, Georgia.
He was born on October 5, 1933, in Akron, Ohio to the late Giles Francis Daugherty and Margaret Harkins Daugherty. He was the middle child of seven and was immensely proud of his Irish heritage.
He graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, putting himself through college while participating in the ROTC program. He went on to serve his country honorably as a Captain in the United States Air Force and was a proud member of the Jeff Davis County Veterans Association.
Mr. Daugherty had a successful career with Amoco, where his work took him across the globe, including assignments in China and Brazil. He and his beloved wife traveled extensively, exploring destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, and the Panama Canal.
He was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and lived his life guided by faith, family, and a spirit of adventure.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Tom and John Daugherty; and his sister, Kathy Trommer.
Mr. Daugherty is survived by his wife, Diana H. Daugherty of Hazlehurst; his Daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Dave King; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul Daugherty and Sophia Moore; his sisters, Rose Ann McGillvary, Mary Lou Gault, and Joan Stockton; and three grandchildren, Patrick Daugherty, Ryan King, and Sean King; and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 3:00 P.M. with Father Anthony Madanu officiating. The Rosary service will begin just before the Mass at 2:30 P.M.
Inurnment will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Jeff Davis County Veterans Association.
