Roy "Gene" Ray

Roy Gene Ray, age 81 of Baxley passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, surrounded by his family. 

Mr. Ray was born in Appling County to the late Mr. Charlie Joe Ray and Clyo Woodard Ray. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charlie (CJ) Ray, Nolan Ray, Johnny Ray, Franklin Ray, sister, Cleo Patra  Whitehurst, Oletha (Lee) Patterson, Bertha Hall, daughter, Mellissa Minichella, grandchildren, Charlie Gene Wenner, Margaret (Maggie) Minichella. 

Mr. Gene was a jack of all trades. He was an entrepreneur and started many businesses throughout his life. He loved to watch westerns and go to the flea markets, most importantly he was a loving husband and father. 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ray, son, Walter Ray (April) of Aiken SC, daughter, Paula Ray of Baxley, grandchildren, Mark Bryant, Jimmy Minichella, Rachel Baker, Ava Baker, Jared Gravat, Nolan Ray, Hannah Ray, great grandchildren, Cadence Copley, Christa Copley, Chylie Copley, Wesley Crow.  

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery beginning at 2:00 PM. Rev. James Jordan will officiate. 

Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
