Ruben Orval Livingston Jr., age 87 of Hazlehurst went to his heavenly home on May 18, 2024.
Mr. Ruben was born December 23, 1936, in Hazlehurst to the late Ruben Orval Livingston Sr. and Johnnie Beall Livingston. Ruben retired from propane gas companies with 36 years of service and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Livingston Sr. and Johnnie Beall Livingston, brothers, Will Henry Livingston, Tommy Livingston, and Gary Livingston.
Mr. Ruben was a true southern Christian gentleman, very meek and humble. He enjoyed reading inspiring nonfiction stories, was an avid gardener, and he enjoyed watching TV, especially Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right and of course Jeopardy. His family said his favorite food on the food chain was DESSERTS, especially the ones that his neighbor Susie Quinn would bring by.
If you ever traveled the Douglas Highway, in the Roper Community, he was the gentleman on the Lawn Mower, always picking up pinecones and sticks, (it did not matter about the weather, HOT Summertime, or whenever he was faithful). He was the keeper of an immaculate, manicured yard and he loved doing it. Mrs. Voncile said it was hard keeping that gas tank filled up on that lawn mower.
He loved his family and church family dearly, and he will be sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Voncile Ussery Livingston of Hazlehurst, son, Gerald R. Livingston (Polly) of Alma, daughters, Gay L. Harrison (Kerry), Crystal M. Stinson (Glynn) both of Hazlehurst, brother, David Livingston (Velma) of Hazlehurst, sister, Gail L. Merritt of Hazlehurst, grandchildren, Amber Carver, Lexi Livingston, Anna Stinson, Maddie Stinson, William Stinson, great grandchildren, Dylan, Dawton and Baylee Carver; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services for Mr. Livingston will be held Monday May 20, 2024, at Elizabeth Baptist Church beginning at 2:00 PM with internment to follow at Hazlehurst City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Keith Yawn, Rev. Glynn Stinson, will officiate and Mrs. Crystal M. Stinson will give a Eulogy.
Dylan Carver, Dawton Carver, William Stinson, Hal Ussery, Greg Ussery and Colby Brown will serve as active pallbearers.
The Golden Age Sunday School class of Elizabeth will serve as honorary pall bearers.
Musical selections will be rendered by Kelly Efstathiou and Mr. E.H. Claxton and the church choir.
