Sonya (Johnson) Gibson

Ms. Sonya Johnson Gibson, age 62, of Hazlehurst, passed away Sunday, December 07, 2025, at her residence.

Ms. Gibson was born July 08, 1963, in Jeff Davis County to the late Earl Johnson and Edna Ann Newham Johnson.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Gibson and her sister, Betty Faye Harper.

Ms. Gibson loved to draw, skate and listen to country music.

She had a deep love for her family and her fur baby “Kane”.

She will be sadly missed.

Her survivors include her three sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Ciara Carter of Hazlehurst, Levi Carter of Hazlehurst and Matthew Carter of Hazlehurst; seven grandchildren, Cansley Carter, Caylin Carter, Chan Henry, Brayleigh Carter, Kayleigh Carter, Gage Butler, and Kaiden Rowland; brother, Bruce (Lori) Johnson of Lumber City; sisters, Laura (Barry) Rae of Hazlehurst and Janie Johnson of Lumber City; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 2:00pm in Denton Cemetery, with Rev. Andy Williams officiating.

The family may be contacted at the residence of her sister, Laura Rae, 122 S. Cromartie Street, Hazlehurst.
