Tera Mae (Jones) Hosmer Obituary

Mrs. Tera Mae Hosmer, age 86, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at her home, under the care of Coastal Hospice and surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 25, 1939, in Hazlehurst to the late Colon D. Jones and Lois Googe Jones. Tera grew up on her family farm, a place that remains in her family today through four generations and was always very dear to her heart. She was a longtime member of Hazlehurst First Methodist, where she faithfully served in many capacities throughout the years, from children’s church to the choir.

Tera retired from Hazlehurst Mills after 32 years of dedicated work and later spent more than 10 years serving her community as a substitute teacher. If her children or grandchildren were involved in something, chances are Tera was too — whether she was serving as a den mother for the Boy Scouts or supporting them as a member of the band boosters. She deeply loved her family and treasured every opportunity to run after her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A talented seamstress, Tera lovingly sewed baby blankets for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a true spitfire with a sharp memory, a strong will, and a mind of her own. She also enjoyed traveling, especially visiting state parks and historical sites.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William A. Hosmer; and her son, Leonard Hosmer.

Survivors include her son, Tony Hosmer of Hazlehurst; her sister, Shirley Jones Graham of Baxley; her grandchildren, Kyle (Kaitlyn) Hosmer, Brittney (Chandler) Edwards, all of Hazlehurst, Tyler Hosmer of Alma, and Taylor Hosmer of Round Rock, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Kylee Hosmer, Addyson Hosmer, James Lewis, Keylie Hosmer, Brilee Lewis, Rhett Hosmer, and Kyson Edwards, all of Hazlehurst; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 2:00pm at Hazlehurst First Methodist Church with Rev. Jinker Horton and Rev. Steven Riddle officiating, with musical selections rendered by Jeffery Spell and Jimmy Maley.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until just prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Hazlehurst City Cemetery.

Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home and the Hosmer family are in charge of arrangements.
