Mrs. Veron Deloris Creamer, age 87, of Hazlehurst, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Veron was born on April 17, 1938, in Waycross to the late Johnny Watkins and Aline Sweat Mincey. She was a lifelong resident of Hazlehurst and former member of the Hazlehurst Pentecostal Church. She was known for her spunky, independent, and feisty spirit—truly a firecracker—yet she was also kind and tenderhearted, always willing to give the shirt off her back to anyone who needed it. She worried deeply about others and went out of her way to do for everyone, especially her grandchildren.
Known affectionately as “Granny (Granny Ron)” and “Mema,” Veron cherished her grandchildren and children, and rarely missed a chance to see them. Her signature saying was, “If the good Lord is willing and spares my life, Grandmother will be there,” and she lived true to those words. She enjoyed crossword and Sudoku puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, tending to her plants, spending time outside, and doing anything hands-on. She loved watching cooking shows and sharing Facebook reels with her family. She had a special love for her cockatiel, Tiki, and enjoyed deer hunting.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Creamer; her step-dad, Aubrey Mincey; her son, Billy Barber; her daughter, Latrelle Barber; her grandsons, Logan Kicklighter and Leon Kirkland; her siblings, Martha Ann, Junior, Zane, Lloyd, Ruth, and Naomi; and her sons-in-law, J.T. Gibbs and David Hughes.
Veron is survived by her daughters, Mary Sue Gibbs of Baxley, Shelby (Lucky) Kicklighter of Soperton, and Marie (Larry) Keith of Springfield; her grandchildren, Ike (Shona), Tina, Cam (Traci), Alyssa (Clay), Keely, Carrie, Tommy (Britney), Billy (Farrah), Robbie, Heather (Cameron), Haleigh (Dalton), and Landon (Ada); and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Hazlehurst Pentecostal Church with Rev. Thomas Colter officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until just prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the Liberty Community Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Landon Kicklighter, Billy Barber, Robbie Barber, Tommy Gibbs, Ike Pate, Cam Pate, and Haleigh Herndon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carrie Gibbs, Tina Pate, Alyssa Delk, Keely Stone, and Heather Meyers.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home and the Creamer family are in charge of arrangements.
