Mrs. Winifred Snipes Houston, age 94, of Lumber City passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence on December 25, 2023. Mrs. Winifred was born in Ellaville, GA to Mr. Alvin P. Snipes and Jennie Tondee Snipes.
She was a member of Lumber City United Methodist Church. She had been an active member of the Methodist Women and Lumber City Women’s Club for many years. Mrs. Houston received her teaching degree from the Women’s College of Milledgeville and taught at Waverly Hall for one year. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and baking. Everyone loved her pound cakes and pecan pies. Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward L. Houston Sr. and her sister, Mrs. Eugenia Yawn.
She is survived by her 4 children, Stephen Houston (Tim), of Talking Rock, Cathy Purser (Steve) of Cochran, Allen Houston (Gisele) of Lumber City, and Edward Houston Jr. (Julie) of Lumber City, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services for Mrs. Houston will be held, Friday, December 29, 2023, at Lumber City United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service hour. The burial ceremony will be private. Rev. Andy Brownley and Rev. Glen Hancock will officiate.
Stephen Purser, Greg Purser, Zach Weber, Zach Houston, Edward Houston III, and Bryson Hancock will serve as pallbearers.
