Mrs. Yvonne Carter Thigpen, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, at Macon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Macon, Georgia.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Macon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and the hospice professionals for the compassion, care, and kindness shown to Yvonne over the past several months.
Yvonne was born on January 20, 1941, in Broxton, Georgia. She was a nearly lifelong resident of Hazlehurst, Georgia, and she and her beloved husband, Ronald, spent many years in the Macon area. She was a devoted member of the Hazlehurst Church of God and remained deeply connected to her faith throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Carter and Ethel Thornton Carter; her brother, Willis Carter; and her sisters, Iris Parker and Linda Campbell.
Yvonne is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Ronald Thigpen; her daughters, Lisa Drawdy (Kelvin) and Sharon Burress (Eddie); her sisters, Doris Smith and Wanda Dykes; her grandchildren, Adam Drawdy, Annabelle Powell (Brandon), and Jordan Garrison (Justin); and her great-grandchildren, Celeste Garrison and Elias Powell.
In 1957, Yvonne married Ronald Thigpen, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and devotion to family. Together, they raised their two daughters and created a home that was known for its warmth, generosity, and unwavering care for others.
Yvonne was, first and always, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. As a homemaker, she took great pride in caring for her family and ensuring that everyone who entered her home felt welcomed and loved. She had a special gift for baking and was known affectionately as “the cake lady” by many who enjoyed her creations—especially during holidays and family gatherings. She was also a talented seamstress, expressing her care and creativity through everything she made.
Later in life, Yvonne pursued a career in nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She dedicated many years to caring for others, bringing compassion, patience, and kindness to her patients.
Above all, Yvonne cherished her family deeply—especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, who held a special place in her heart, with a well-known and much-deserved soft spot for them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
